Youth Summits

County-wide Youth Summits: Youth Summits are held twice during each school year, once in the spring and once in the fall. The purpose of these summits is to empower youth to identify issues and needs affecting youth in their local school, community, and the county, and then set achievable goals to address these needs and issues. The summits provide an avenue for “youth voice,” youth-leadership training, connections with youth leaders and resources, strong Youth Leadership Teams, mentoring opportunities and a positive experience which proves to be a valuable use of time.

Meet the HCC Leadership Teams!

Pierz – Improve Band and Choir needs including equipment, lessons, and classes. The team also wants to look at the possibility of establishing a local drive-in movie theater and upgrading sport seating.
Swanville – Organize the second annual countywide Lock-in & Talent Show. They also want to support “Monthly Movie Nights and start a “Walk for a Cause”.
Upsala – Work with the local FFA to develop homework “Catch up clubs” for students in the district. They would also like to support getting lights on the sports field and more co-ed intramural sports.
Little Falls – Organize “student movie nights” at the local theater with later showing times or all night features. They are also planning to organize a countywide Scavenger Hunt in the spring.
Royalton – The team wants to actively support establishing a local diner – somewhere to eat in an alcohol free environment that is customized to include students. They also are interested in starting a local “Teen Employment Agency”.
COUNTYWIDE GOALS THAT MIGHT WORK… sports Clinics, Walk for a Cause, and Lock-in with transportation.

Youth-Senior initiative (Eat.Talk.Connect) – youth had lunch with area senior citizens and used “conversation cards” to engage in sharing stories, thoughts and ideas with one another to help bridge the generation gap between youth and seniors over a healthy meal.
